OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – On the brink of its first conference tournament title since 1989, the No. 5 West Virginia women’s basketball team faces No. 7 Baylor tonight at 9 p.m., in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship Game. The game will be televised live nationally on Fox Sports 1.
The second-seeded Mountaineers and top-seeded Bears split the regular season series with WVU claiming a 71-69 come-from-behind win in the most-recent matchup between the two schools on March 2.
Baylor has won each of the last three Big 12 Tournament Championships, and defeated eighth-seeded Kansas and fourth-seeded Oklahoma State to reach the title game.
WVU is making its third conference tournament championship game appearance under the direction of head coach Mike Carey, and its fourth appearance in school history. The Mountaineers defeated seventh-seeded TCU and third-seeded Texas to get to the championship game.
The top-five ranking for West Virginia is its highest school history, breaking the previous mark set by the No. 6 Mountaineers in 2010.
