Duo, Vault Lineup Nationally Ranked

After a season-long fight, the WVU vault lineup is nationally ranked in this week's GymInfo Poll.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two West Virginia University gymnasts, along with the squad’s vault lineup, are nationally ranked in this week’s GymInfo Poll.
Senior Hope Sloanhoffer pulls in two national rankings for the second straight week. The Cornwall, N.Y., native is No. 35 (39.16) in the all-around and No. 46 (9.865) on vault. For the ninth straight week, freshman Alexa Goldberg is nationally ranked on the uneven bars and checks in at No. 46 (9.855).
After opening the season at No. 41, the Mountaineers (6-8, 0-2 Big 12) have climbed their way into the vault rankings and check in at No. 24 (49.005).   
This week’s rankings are based on regional qualifying scores (RQS).
LSU ranks No. 1 for the third straight week with a 197.66 RQS. Oklahoma is up one to No. 2 (197.64), while Florida is down one to No. 3 (197.565). Alabama and Utah rank No. 4 (197.32) and No. 5 (197.225), respectively.
The Mountaineers are down one to No. 5 (194.745) in the Southeast region. The squad ranks No. 3 (48.85) on bars, No. 4 on vault, and No. 6 on beam (48.53) and floor (48.79).
Sloanhoffer owns five regional rankings for the third straight week. She ranks No. 5 in the all-around, a team-best No. 8 on vault and No. 9 (9.84) on floor, No. 14 (9.835) on bars and No. 24 (9.755) on beam.
Goldberg paces the bars unit and ranks No. 10. Senior Erica Smith follows Sloanhoffer at No. 20 (9.785).
Junior Beth Deal ranks a team-best No. 12 (9.825) on beam. Senior Amanda Carpenter follows at No. 20 (9.76).
Sophomore Jaida Lawrence follows Sloanhoffer on vault at No. 13 (9.84), and freshman Nicolette Swoboda ranks No. 17 (9.815).
Junior Dayah Haley follows Sloanhoffer on floor at No. 22 (9.775), and Swoboda checks in at No. 24 (9.76). Swoboda also ranks No. 9 in the all-around (38.84).
The Mountaineers continue to rank No. 2 overall in the Big 12 Conference. The squad also ranks No. 2 on vault and bars, and No. 3 on beam and floor.
Sloanhoffer is the conference’s No. 1-ranked gymnast for the third straight week. She also ranks No. 6 on vault and floor and No. 7 on bars.
Swoboda ranks No. 3 in the all-around, No. 9 on vault and No. 10 on floor.
Goldberg paces the bars unit at No. 6, and Smith follows at No. 10.
Deal is the lone Mountaineer ranked on beam and checks in at No. 6.
Additionally, Lawrence ranks No. 7 on vault, and Haley ranks No. 9 on floor.
The Mountaineers close out the 2014 regular season at Maryland on Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m., at the Comcast Center, in College Park, Md.
