MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two former West Virginia University women’s soccer student-athletes opened preseason training camp with FC Kansas City today.
All-America forward Frances Silva and goalkeeper Sara Keane joined the Blues today at Johnson County Community College for the squad’s first practice of the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
Silva, an Overland Park, Kan., native, was selected by FC Kansas City with the 19th overall pick at the 2014 NWSL College Draft in January. Keane, a Mt. Laurel, N.J., native, was picked up by the team last week.
Silva is coming off an appearance with the U.S Under-23 Women’s National Team at the Six Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, last week. The squad secured the tournament title with a 2-1 win over Norway on March 5. The team also defeated Japan, 1-0, and Sweden, 2-1. Silva scored the game-winner against Sweden on March 3.
The Blues are coached by NWSL 2013 Coach of the Year, Vlatko Andonovski. The season officially opens on April 12, when FC Kansas City hosts Sky Blue FC at 8 p.m. ET.
