MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The brackets for the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City will be announced throughout the day, March 12, beginning at 1 p.m. EST.
West Virginia qualified four wrestlers with automatic bids following the Big 12 Championships on March 8. Freshman Cory Stainbrook
(125), sophomore Bubba Scheffel
(174) and sophomore A.J. Vizcarrondo
(HWT) will make their first appearance at the championships, while junior Mike Morales (149) makes his second trip.
Seniors Nathan Pennesi
(133) and Colin Johnston
(141) are eligible for at-large bids, which will be announced tomorrow. Pennesi is a three-time qualifier, while this would be Johnston’s first appearance.
Each set of qualifiers (in alphabetical order) will be announced on NCAA.com over the course of the day, beginning with heavyweights at 1 p.m., and continuing with a new weight class each half hour (197 pounds at 1:30; 184 pounds at 2 p.m.; etc.).
The day will conclude with the NCAA Wrestling Selection Show at 6 p.m. ET on NCAA.com, where the seeds and brackets will be unveiled for each weight class. During the Selection Show, details on the championship match order for Session VI on Saturday night will be revealed.
Immediately following the show, a full release and brackets will be posted on NCAA.com.
The 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City from March 20-22. Tickets may be purchased on NCAA.com.
