Baseball Takes on Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The West Virginia baseball team is continuing its West Coast trip with a three-game series against Cal State Northridge this weekend.
On Thursday and Friday the teams will play at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s finale begins at 4 p.m.
West Virginia (8-5) is coming off a 4-3 loss at UNLV on Tuesday evening. Junior center fielder Bobby Boyd led the Mountaineers at the plate with four hits, giving him team lead in batting average at .368. Senior first baseman continues to lead the Mountaineers in homers (4) and RBIs (18), as well as a .360 batting average.
Senior left-hander Zach Bargeron will get his first start of the season on Thursday. Bargeron has made four appearances this season, striking out one in 3.1 innings. Staff ace, junior left-hander Harrison Musgrave will start on Friday. Musgrave has a 3-0 record with a 1.78 ERA in four starts. He has struck out a team-leading 33 batters in 25.1 innings. Saturday’s starter is to be determined.
Cal State Northridge (7-11) was swept last weekend at Sam Houston State and most recently defeated Utah Valley on Monday and fell to San Diego State on Tuesday.
Nick Blaser leads the Matadors at the plate with a .395 batting average, five runs, one double and three RBIs. Chester Pak has a team-leading 10 RBIs to go along with a .288 batting average, one double and two triples.
Cal State Northridge will start lefty Jerry Keel on Thursday, righty Brycen Rutherford on Friday and righty Jordan Johnson on Saturday. Keel (0-3) has a 3.71 ERA in four games with 23 strikeouts in 26.2 innings, Rutherford (1-2) has a 1.61 ERA in four starts with 17 strikeouts in 28 innings and Johnson (2-1) has a 1.98 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 27.1 innings in four starts.
