MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University volleyball coach Jill Kramer has announced the 2014 spring schedule, highlighted by a home tournament hosted by the Mountaineers at the WVU Coliseum.
“We started our competitive spring season on Monday and have had two really great days of training with our full squad,” says Kramer. “The NCAA allows four dates of competition in our spring season. We have put together a very competitive schedule where we will play some very experienced teams and a lot of volleyball at every event.”
Kramer and the Mountaineers are coming off their first 20-win season since 1991 and look to carry that momentum into the spring season.
West Virginia kicks off the spring slate in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, March 29 at the KiVA Collegiate Tournament, followed by the Circle City Collegiate Volleyball Invitational on April 5 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Mountaineers return home on April 12 for the WVU Volleyball Spring Fling at the WVU Coliseum, and conclude the spring schedule at the George Washington University Spring Tournament on April 19, on the campus of GW.
“Each spring, we take a look at what we feel will help us be successful the following fall, when it really counts,” Kramer says. “We are excited to continue to develop our team in preparation for the fall.”
West Virginia’s roster was filled with nine underclassmen a year ago, as it returns 10 of its 14 roster members, including freshman outside hitter Jordan Anderson
who finished second in the Big 12 Conference in kills per set, while earning All-Big 12 and AVCA All-Region distinctions.
Kramer is in her fourth year at the helm, and recorded her 50th career win in the Mountaineers’ season finale victory over Buffalo on Nov. 30.
More information about the April 12 home tournament will be released closer to the event.
