MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University track and field team opens its outdoor season at the Cal U Early Bird Invitational in California, Pa., on Saturday, March 22.
The meet will begin with the women’s pole vault and 10,000 meters at 11 a.m., and concludes with the women’s 4x400 meter relay at 5:30 p.m.
This marks the second straight year the Mountaineers have participated in the Early Bird Meet.
West Virginia’s indoor season was highlighted by performances at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa.
Senior Katlyn Shelar
placed fourth in the pole vault, senior Stormy Nesbit
placed sixth in the long jump and second in the triple jump, senior Sarah Martinelli
placed seventh in the mile and sophomore Hannah Stone
placed fourth in the high jump, with all earning spots on the podium.
The Mountaineers will welcome back senior Chene Townsend for the outdoor season. Townsend, who redshirted during the indoor season, qualified for the NCAA Championships a season ago in the 100-meter hurdles.
