Tennis Struggles Against No. 14 Bears

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team fell on the road to No. 14 Baylor, 7-0, earlier today.
The Mountaineers (3-11, 0-3 Big 12) found themselves in a hole early after surrendering the doubles point. The duo of sophomores Vivian Tsui and Irinka Toidze fell to Alex Clay and Makenzie Craft, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Hailey Barrett and junior Ikttesh Chahal stumbled against Alec Leatu and Jordaan Sanford, 8-4. The freshmen tandem of Oana Manole and Kaja Mrgole closed out the session with an 8-4 loss.
In singles, Manole dropped her second straight match in conference play, losing to No. 122 Sanford, 6-0, 6-0. Mrgole ran into the No. 68-ranked Ema Burgic, falling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Barrett matched up against No. 52 Kiah Generette, but could not snap her two-match losing streak, going down in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The Mountaineers travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the No. 21-ranked Texas Longhorns on Sunday, March 23. The match is set to begin at noon EST.
