MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The team pairings and rotation order for the four West Virginia University gymnasts competing at the 2014 NCAA Athens Regional Championships on April 5 have been announced.

Senior Hope Sloanhoffer, the Southeast region’s top-ranked all-around gymnast not on a qualifying team, has been paired with No. 6-ranked and No. 1-seed Georgia. Sloanhoffer, the Big 12 Conference all-around champion, and the Gym Dogs’ rotation order is: bye, uneven bars, balance beam, bye, floor, vault.

“I’m really excited for Hope to compete with Georgia,” says Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “I know the coaches and several of the student-athletes on that team, and I know they’ll take care of Hope. I think her scoring potential is strong with the Gym Dogs, and her rotation order is very favorable.”

Freshman Nicolette Swoboda has been paired with fifth-seeded NC State. Swoboda and the Wolfpack’s rotation order is: uneven bars, balance beam, bye, floor, vault, bye.

“Nicolette is paired with a great team, and I know she will be fine rotating with the Wolfpack,” says Butts.

Junior Beth Deal and freshman Alexa Goldberg have been paired with sixth-seeded Rutgers. The duo will only compete on balance beam and the uneven bars, respectively. The Scarlet Knights open the championships on beam, and Deal, a Parkersburg, W.Va., native, will be the seventh gymnast to compete on the apparatus that afternoon. RU closes the meet on bars, and Goldberg, an Ivyland, Pa., native, will be the final gymnast to compete on the apparatus.

“Both Beth and Alexa are strong on their events, and I’m not concerned with when they compete,” Butts explains. “They both have solid routines and a good shot of advancing to the national championships, despite their rotation order.”

The NCAA Athens Regional Championships will be held at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga. Competition is set to begin at 4 p.m., and links for live stats and a video feed will be available at WVUSports.com.

The top two teams, as well as the top two all-around competitors and event champions not on an advancing team, will earn an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA National Championships, in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20, with the University of Alabama and the Alabama Sports Foundation as hosts.
