BATON ROUGE, La. - West Virginia senior center Asya Bussie
has been named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region nominee for the 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team.
Bussie is one of 52 candidates and one of seven total players from the Big 12 Conference in competition for the All-America honor, as announced by the WBCA today. The selection committee will select a 10-member team, which will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT, on Saturday, April 5, during the NCAA Women’s Final Four Super Saturday festivities in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Bussie holds WVU’s program record, and leads the nation, with 137 career and consecutive starts. She ranks second in WVU’s record books with 268 blocked shots and is the 15th player in WVU history to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, doing so in three seasons.
The Randallstown, Md., native is a team co-captain and has recorded 73 double-figure scoring games in her career. Bussie leads the Mountaineers with eight double-doubles this season and 15 in her career, and has led WVU in rebounding a team-leading 20 times this season.
Bussie and the No. 2-seeded West Virginia women’s basketball team will face No. 7-seeded LSU in in the NCAA Second Round at 9:45 p.m. ET, on Tuesday, March 25. Tuesday’s game will air live on ESPN2, and will also be available live on ESPN3.
