MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia tennis team travels to Oklahoma to take on the No. 18 Sooners on April 4, and No. 22 Oklahoma State on April 6.
The Mountaineers (3-14, 0-6 Big 12) wrap up their regular-season road schedule with this weekend’s play. WVU is coming off an 0-2 weekend at home against then-No. 32 Texas Tech and then-No. 57 TCU. Freshmen Kaja Mrgole
and Oana Manole
continue to lead the Mountaineers in both singles and doubles this season. The tandem boasts seven wins in singles play each and six victories in doubles competition. Mrgole was at No. 1 singles from Feb. 14 to March 9, until sophomore Hailey Barrett
returned to the lineup. In that time, Mrgole amassed a record of 4-3.
Oklahoma enters the match 13-3 this spring, with two of its losses coming to Big 12 Conference opponents. Last weekend, the Sooners downed then-No.61 Kansas State, 6-1, and blanked then-No. 47 Kansas, 7-0. Whitney Ritchie is the lone Sooner to appear in the Intercollegiate Tennis Associations’ (ITA) top 125, coming in at No. 116. Ritchie is 14-1 this season, and 9-0 playing in the No. 2 slot. Ritchie and Mia Lancaster have combined for a 10-4 mark this spring and are ranked No. 64.
The Cowgirls are 10-5 this season and remain perfect in Big 12 play, boasting a 4-0 mark. OSU rolled past the Jayhawks, 7-0, and Wildcats, 5-2, last weekend. Viktoriya Lushkova leads the squad with a mark of 13-2 and a ranking of No. 54 by the ITA. Lushkova and doubles partner Kanyapat Narattana come into the weekend ranked No. 65 and riding a seven-match win streak.
