Baseball Swept at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The WVU baseball team fell 3-1 as TCU completed the Big 12 series sweep on Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
West Virginia falls to 16-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Mountaineers scored one run on five hits with one error.
Senior third baseman Michael Constantini and junior designated hitter Max Nogay had two hits each, with Constantini driving in a run and Nogay scoring a run.
Despite WVU converting a triple play in the bottom of the third, TCU took a 1-0 lead. Kyle Bacak led off with a double to left field and was plated on a single through the left side by Derek Odell. With runners on first and second and Boomer White at the plate, TCU attempted a double steal. White lined out to junior shortstop Taylor Munden, who touched second base and threw to first base to complete the triple play.
The bottom of the lineup tied it at 1-1 for the Mountaineers in the top of the fifth. Nogay singled up the middle to lead off the frame and scored on a single through the left side by Constantini.
TCU regained a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on RBI singles by Cody Jones and White.
Neither starter got out of the fifth inning. WVU junior lefty John Means (4-1) took the no-decision in three innings. Means allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. TCU starter Alex Young gave up one run on three hits in 4.1 innings with one strikeout and one walk.
The loss was issued to junior right-hander Michael Bennett (2-2), his second in two days. Bennett allowed two runs on two hits with one strikeout in 1.2 innings. TCU’s Tyler Alexander picked up the win, pitching 3.1 innings of shutout baseball.
Jones, Odell, White and Keaton Jones all had two hits for TCU.
