MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – FC Kansas City announced today the signing of former West Virginia University women’s soccer goalkeeper Sara Keane.
A Mt. Laurel, N.J., native, Keane, is the second former Mountaineer to sign with the Blues, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), in a month, as former All-American Frances Silva signed in March. Per team and league policy, terms of the agreement are not disclosed.
“I’m very excited to get the opportunity to play with such a talented team,” says Keane. “I can’t wait for the season to start to see how far this team will go. It is truly an honor to be a part of such a great club.”
The signing of Keane, along with midfielder Mandy Laddish, completes FC Kansas City’s Opening Day roster.
Keane was picked up by the Blues at the beginning of March and opened preseason training camp on March 10.
Keane recorded 10 shutouts in her final season as a Mountaineer, putting her career total at 27, the third-best mark in program history. She helped WVU record three straight shutouts en route to the team’s first Big 12 Soccer Tournament title in November, and she was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. Additionally, she made seven saves and turned away three penalty kicks in the team’s 0-0 double-overtime draw against Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 16. Keane recorded a 1.01 goals-against average, defending 232 shots and 89 corner kicks.
The Blues are coached by 2013 NWSL Coach of the Year, Vlatko Andonovski. The season officially opens on April 12, when FC Kansas City hosts Sky Blue FC at 8 p.m. ET.
