MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia volleyball team will host the 2014 WVU Spring Fling on Saturday, April 12, at the WVU Coliseum.
This will be the third of four tournaments slated for the Mountaineers this spring, with three of those four taking place on the road.
“We are excited to host the 2014 WVU Spring Fling,” says coach Jill Kramer. “It’s a great opportunity for WVU fans to come check out a lot of volleyball, as all three courts will be going all day with Division I and II teams from around the area.”
West Virginia is scheduled to play two matches on Saturday. WVU will kickoff the day against Duquesne at 10 a.m. The Dukes handed the Mountaineers their first loss of the season a year ago in straight sets on Sept. 17, 2013.
The second match for WVU will be played at 2 p.m. against Youngstown State. West Virginia is 16-4 all-time against YSU in the regular season, with the most recent meeting between the two schools coming in 2010.
“This will be the only time in the spring that we will be playing a best of five format like we do in the traditional fall season,” Kramer says. “I think it’s important for our team to make adjustments throughout a match, and this format should allow us to do a better job of that.”
Robert Morris, Fairmont State, Wheeling Jesuit, Juniata, as well as a WVU alumni team will also be participating in Saturday’s tournament.
Admission is free for fans and results and information regarding the tournament can be found at WVUSports.com following competition.
