MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – Six members of the West Virginia University rowing team earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal, commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today.
Alexandra Basil, Whitney Chrisman, Madison James, Louisa Morgan, Courtney Schrand and Karen Verwey received the award. Basil, Schrand and Verwey received the honor last season. The six honors matches the number of WVU rowers named to the list in 2013.
A total of 670 student-athletes earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal during the 2013-14 academic year. Medals are given to C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better.
The Mountaineers have been an affiliate of C-USA since beginning Big 12 competition in 2012-13. Due to C-USA’s automatic bid to compete at the NCAA Championships, several programs from the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference have joined the conference as affiliate members.
WVU takes to the water next at the Knecht Cup Regatta in West Windsor, N.J., from April 12-13.
