Sophomore Amanda Hill tallied her first goal of the spring against Ohio State on April 12, 2014, to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 advantage over the Buckeyes at Dreamswork Field.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – The West Virginia University women's soccer team tallied its second victory of the spring, downing Ohio State, 3-0, today, at Dreamswork Field.

“It was a great opportunity for us to continue to work on some of the concepts we have been working on this spring,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We definitely were working on playing in the final third, and I am proud of how we worked today to be able to finish three goals.”

The Mountaineers finished with 10 shots on net to the Buckeyes' one. WVU held a four to one advantage in cornerkicks, as well.

The Mountaineers struck first with sophomore Kelsie Maloney's first goal of the spring season. After the Buckeyes tried to clear the ball following a shot from sophomore Kailey Utley, WVU regained position just inside OSU's side of the pitch, and Maloney made a run, crossing over a Buckeye defender at the top of the 18-yard box on her way to finishing inside the left post.

Utley extended the Mountaineers' lead with her second goal of the spring, finishing near post from 10-yards out. Freshman Carly Black played the ball to the top of the box to Maloney, who then played a touch to sophomore Amanda Hill. Hill flipped the ball to freshman Ashley Lawrence, who headed it on stride to a streaking Utley.

Utley nearly tallied her second goal of the match off a pass from Maloney. Freshman Daniela Neves forced a turnover just outside the OSU 18-yard box, and played the ball to Maloney. After making one defender over run the play, Maloney found Utley on the right post, but the Buckeye keeper made the stop.

OSU's best attempt of the first half came late with a ball played forward over the Mountaineer defense. Freshman Kadeisha Buchanan caught up to the play though, just inside the WVU 18-yard box, stealing the ball before the Buckeyes could get a shot off.

Early in the second half, Buchanan jumped a pass near midfield and made a run toward the OSU goal. After being taken down by the OSU defender, junior Jess Crowder sent the free kick into the box, and freshman Ashley Woolpert put a header on net, but the keeper made the save.

The Buckeyes put together a run midway through the half, but sent the left-footed attempt high and wide, as junior Katie Osterman came off her line to cut down the angle.

Hill tallied the match's third goal after jumping a pass on the OSU side of the pitch. She dribbled toward the Buckeye net and ripped a shot from 20-yards out that found its way in past the right post.

OSU countered quickly, making a run on the right side of the field. Freshman Michelle Newhouse came running off her line though to spoil the Buckeye's run, stopping OSU's only shot on net.

The Mountaineers conclude their home-spring season against Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
