Tennis Knocked Off in Regular Season Finale

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team concluded its regular season with a 5-2 loss against Iowa State, today, at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers (3-17, 0-9) opened the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo of sophomore Hailey Barrett and junior Ikttesh Chahal won its second consecutive match, downing Sami Bidai and Ksenia Pronina, 8-4. The Cyclones sealed the doubles point though after knocking off WVU's pair of sophomores Irinka Toidze and Vivian Tsui.
In singles, ISU extended its lead with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Barrett tallied the Mountaineers' first point of the match with her first singles win since Feb. 7. She downed Pronina at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Toidze forced a tiebreaker set at the No. 4 position after dropping the first set to Ana Gasparovic, 6-4. Coming off a 6-4 second set, Toidze was edged out in the tiebreaker, 12-10, by Gasparovic. Tsui recorded her sixth singles victory, beating Emma Waites, 6-1, 6-1.
WVU hits the road next for the Big 12 Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, from April 24-27.
