Vance Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Following his performance against Ohio State last Tuesday, sophomore pitcher Ross Vance has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
In his first career start, Vance struck out 14 Buckeye batters en route to a complete game victory over Ohio State last Tuesday. Vance set a WVU season high in strikeouts and tied a Big 12 season high. He allowed one run on eight hits in nine innings with two strikeouts.
The win helped the Mountaineers break a seven-game losing streak. Vance allowed just one run and one walk, while striking out 14 batters in nine innings.

This Week in Baseball
West Virginia will play five home games this week at Hawley Field … WVU will open the week with Maryland on Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m., followed by a game against Marshall on Wednesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. … WVU will then host Kansas State from April 25-27 for a Big 12 series … Friday’s game will start at 6 p.m., Saturday’s game will begin at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s finale is scheduled for a noon start.

The Mountaineers went 3-1 last week, highlighted by a series win at Oklahoma … WVU won 4-1 against Ohio State last Tuesday … the Mountaineers then won two-of-three over the weekend at Oklahoma, winning 7-0 on Thursday, falling 5-3 on Friday and winning 9-5 on Saturday.

Senior Hope Sloanhoffer competed at the 2014 NCAA National Championships on April 18, at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center, in Birmingham, Ala. … Sloanhoffer’s highest finish came on vault, where she finished tied for ninth in the second semifinal session with a season-high 9.875 … she preceded that routine with a school-record 9.875 on floor, good enough for 16th place … Sloanhoffer also scored 9.75 on the uneven bars and ended the night with a 9.225 showing on beam … she finished 19th overall with a 38.725 score.
