Martinelli Wins 3,000 Steeple at Penn Relays

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia track and field team completed the first day of the 120th edition of the Penn Relays late last night in Philadelphia, Pa.
 
Senior Sarah Martinelli, a Morgantown, W.Va., native, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:17.47. The time was less than a tenth of a second off Martinelli’s personal-best time in the event set earlier in the season, and was the 13th-best time nationally this season.
 
The time for Martinelli was also the third-fastest time in the 3,000 steeple in WVU program history.
 
Later in the night, senior Allison Lasnicki placed second in the 10,000 meters in her first action of the season. Lasnicki’s time of 34:11.20 was the 14th-best time nationally entering the weekend.
 
The Mountaineers continue day two of competition at the Penn Relays today.
