Martinelli Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After leading the Mountaineers at the 120th edition of the Penn Relays over the weekend, senior Sarah Martinelli has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
Martinelli won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, on Thursday night in 10:17.47. The time is the second-best of Martinelli’s career and ranks her No. 12 nationally in the event this season.
The Morgantown native won the 3,000 steeple by nearly four seconds, beating out Penn State’s Tori Gerlach.

West Virginia will open the week at Marshall on Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m., at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston … the Mountaineers will then host Texas from May 2-4 in the final series at Hawley Field … Friday’s game will start at 6 p.m., Saturday’s game will begin at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
