West Virginia University is planning to send Hawley Field out in style this weekend when the Mountaineers play host to 19th-ranked Texas for a three-game Big 12 series.

Those three contests represent the final home series at the 43-year-old facility, as West Virginia plans to move into its new $21 million ballpark currently under construction at the University Town Centre.

As part of the celebration, the WVU Varsity Club is having a Baseball Alumni Reunion Weekend for all former Mountaineer players beginning with an alumni golf outing at Lakeview Resort on Friday morning at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided after golf and players are then invited to watch the Mountaineers take on Texas at 6 p.m. at Hawley Field that evening.

On Saturday, the Varsity Club will sponsor a baseball alumni pre-game tailgate with food and refreshments for former players and staff members beginning at 1:30 prior to Saturday’s 4 p.m. contest. Those returning to Morgantown will also be recognized before the game.

Players remaining in town are invited to take in Sunday’s series finale as well against the Longhorns beginning at 1 p.m. Bill Hawley, the son of Hawley Field namesake Roy “Legs” Hawley, will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch that afternoon.

Any former players or staff members interested in attending this weekend’s Baseball Alumni Reunion Weekend are encouraged to contact Karly Rasmussen of the WVU Varsity Club by phone (304) 293-9563 or by email VarsityClub@mail.wvu.edu.
