WVU-Marshall Battle Wednesday in Charleston

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia baseball team is set to travel to Charleston on Wednesday, April 30, for a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Marshall at Appalachian Power Park.
 
The radio broadcast will be on select affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG College, with Jeff Culhane and Ernie Galusky on the call.
 
The game will be the finale in the two-game season series that featured a 10-3 win by WVU in Morgantown last Wednesday. Junior catcher Cam O’Brien fell a home run shy of the cycle, while senior first baseman Ryan McBroom finished with three hits and two RBIs. Junior right fielder Brad Johnson and senior third baseman Michael Constantini each had two RBIs.
 
West Virginia (24-16, 7-7 Big 12) enters the game on a six-game winning streak and it has won eight of its last 10 games. Marshall (18-24, 8-12 Conference USA) has dropped four straight and was most recently swept at UAB.
 
Junior center fielder Bobby Boyd is leading the team with a .379 batting average, along with eight doubles, two triples, one home run, 20 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. McBroom is hitting .348 and leading the team with seven homers and 40 RBIs, to go along with nine doubles.
 
Coach Randy Mazey will send junior right-hander Michael Bennett (2-3, 5.54 ERA) to the mound. Bennett has struck out 17 in 26.0 innings and opponents are hitting .244.
 
Marshall outfielder Cory Garrastazu is leading the team with a .321 batting average to go along with three doubles and six RBIs. First baseman TJ Diffenderfer is hitting .244 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 20 RBIs, while outfielder Eric Escobedo has a team-leading 21 RBIs.
 
Marshall has yet to announce a starting pitcher.
 
West Virginia is 40-23 all-time against Marshall and has won 16 of the last 19 meetings.
