MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Following a weekend off from competition, the West Virginia track and field team returns to action at the Virginia Relays in Charlottesville, Va., this Friday and Saturday.

This will be the final weekend of competition for the Mountaineers prior to the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas, May 16-18.

The two-day meet, which includes a strong field of participants that features Olympians, All-Americans and NCAA Champions, will begin on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., and conclude late Saturday night following the women’s 10,000 meters scheduled for 9:45 p.m.

Seniors Sarah Martinelli, Chené Townsend and Stormy Nesbit will be in competition this weekend, looking to improve on their marks.

Martinelli won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays with a time of 10:17.38 in her most recent outing. The time was the 15th-best nationally in the event this season.

Nesbit also looks to carry momentum into the Virginia Challenge, having recorded a season-best mark in the triple jump (12.71 meters) in her last outing.
