Track Completes First Day at Virginia Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia track and field team completed the first day of two at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., earlier this evening.
 
Senior Stormy Nesbit tied her best mark of the season in the triple jump. Nesbit recorded a leap of 12.71 meters to finish in second place overall in the event. Nesbit’s two best jumps of the outdoor season have come in each of her last two outings.
 
Sophomore Marsielle McBeam placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.71 meters. The jump was McBeam’s best mark of the outdoor season and her second-best mark as a Mountaineer.
 
Fellow sophomore Hannah Stone also recorded her best mark of the outdoor season in the high jump with a jump of 1.66 meters. Stone placed sixth in the event.
 
Freshman Megan Yuan cut more than five seconds off her personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:30.16 to earn her 10th place overall in the event.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Alyssa Scherich recorded a personal-best time of 1:04.95, coming in 19th place.
 
The rest of the Mountaineers will be in action tomorrow on the second, and final, day of competition at the Virginia Challenge.
