Baseball Travels to Maryland for Final Midweek

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU baseball team will travel to Maryland on Tuesday, May 11 for the final non-conference game of the season at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
WVU (27-20, 9-11 Big 12) is looking to get back into the win column after getting swept at Kansas last weekend. Junior second baseman Billy Fleming leads WVU with a .373 batting average, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 27 RBIs. Fleming had the second cycle in WVU history last Sunday at Kansas.
Junior center fielder Bobby Boyd is hitting .366 with eight doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBIs and 16 stolen bases, while senior first baseman Ryan McBroom is batting .346 with a team-leading eight homers and 44 RBIs.
Senior right-hander Corey Walter (1-4) will get the start after picking up a no-decision against Virginia Tech last Tuesday. Walter has struck out 17 in 34.2 innings with a 4.41 ERA.
Maryland (33-19, 15-14 ACC) has won eight in a row, including a weekend sweep of Pitt.
The Terrapins are led by freshman infielder Brandon Lowe, who is batting .355 with 11 doubles, two triples, one home run and 36 RBIs. Senior infielder Blake Schmit has a .306 batting average, 15 doubles, one triple and 25 RBIs. Sophomore infielder Jose Cuas has a team-leading five home runs and 38 RBIs.
Sophomore left-hander Zach Morris (2-1) will start his sixth game for Maryland. Morris has posted a 2.25 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 32.0 innings.
In the first meeting in Morgantown on April 22, WVU had 16 hits in a 14-2 rout. The Mountaineers had nine extra-base hits, led by two doubles apiece from junior shortstop Taylor Munden and senior third baseman Michael Constantini.
