Track Earns All-Academic Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 13, 2014) – A total of 11 members of the West Virginia track and field team were named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team announced today by the conference.
Nine Mountaineers earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team distinctions, while two were named to the second team.
West Virginia’s 11 individual recognitions were the fourth most by Big 12 member institutions. Baylor and Oklahoma State earned the most honorees, both with 19 total distinctions.
Senior Kim Mulvin highlighted West Virginia on the league’s first team as one of four female conference honorees with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average. Other Mountaineers earning first team recognition were seniors Jenna Barreto, Kaitlyn Gillespie, Sarah Martinelli, who was the Big 12 Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the year in the fall, Allison Pettit and Allison Tyree, as well as sophomores Ashanti Bess, Brianna Kerekes and Sydney Scott.
Senior Chelsea Jarvis and sophomore Hannah Stone represented West Virginia on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.
First team members consists of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
