Football Announces Roster Addition

West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen has announced that FCS All-American defensive end Shaquille Riddick, a 6-6, 244-pound senior from Akron, Ohio, has signed a grant-in-aid to join the Mountaineer football program for the 2014-15 academic year.
Riddick played three years at Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C., and will have one season of eligibility remaining.
2013 (Jr.): FCS All-America selection at defensive end by eight different services and finished fifth in voting for the Buck Buchanan Award – given annually to the top defensive player in FCS … named FCS Co-Performer of the Year at Defensive End by College Football Performance Awards following the season … All-Big South Conference first-team … played in 11 games and started 10 … had a team-leading 8.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss and 17 quarterback hurries … No. 2 nationally in tackles for loss and No. 19 in sacks … No. 1 in the Big South Conference in sacks and tackles for loss and No. 11 in tackles … third on the Bulldog defense with 67 tackles, including 31 unassisted tackles … also had a forced fumble and a pass breakup … rated as the No. 12 defensive end prospect for the 2015 NFL Draft by NFLDraftScout.com.
2012 (So.): Played in 11 games and made six starts at defensive end … led the Big South Conference with 10 quarterback pressures … had 37 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks … batted down two passes … Collected a career-high 10 total tackles (five solo), 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack vs. Presbyterian (11/17) in the season finale … sack led to a forced fumble on the Blue Hose’ final offensive play of the game, which Preston Pemasa recovered to preserve a 21-13 win … had seven total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the season opener vs. No. 10 Wofford (9/1) … made six stops (four solo) at Charleston Southern (11/10) … had a sack at Pitt (9/22) … batted down a pair of passes vs. VMI (10/27).
2011 (Fr.): Played in eight games, seeing action on special teams and as a reserve defensive end … finished the year with six total tackles … blocked a field goal vs. Liberty (10/8) … had a season-high two total tackles at Presbyterian (10/8) and vs. Stony Brook (11/12).
High School: Played at Buchtel (Ohio) High under Coach Ricky Powers … played both inside and outside on the defensive line ... helped Griffins to an 11-4 record and a runner-up finish in the Ohio Division III State Championship Game … team won back-to-back City Series Conference titles … earned honorable mention Associated Press All-District honors in 2010 … collected 75 total tackles and 10 sacks on the season … forced one fumble … had two sacks in the state title game … also a standout on the basketball court.
