MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Five members of the West Virginia University track and field team qualify for the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla., announced today by the NCAA.
Martinelli is No. 18 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after setting a personal-best time of 10:17.38 at the Stanford Invitational on April 4.
Nesbit is at No. 14 in the triple jump. She finished third at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in the event, tying a personal best leap of 13.07 meters.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Townsend ranks No. 25 in the East. Much like Nesbit, Townsend also hit her best mark of the season last weekend at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 13.41.
Lasnicki finished second in the 10,000 meters at the Big 12 Championships and currently ranks No. 23 in the event. Lasnicki posted a personal-best time of 34:11.20 at the Penn Relays on April 24.
The final Mountaineer qualifier, McBeam, had her best outing of the season one weekend ago at the Big 12 Championships. McBeam sits in a tie at No. 31 in the high jump with a personal-best jump of 1.76 meters, set last weekend in her fourth-place finish at the conference championships.
The NCAA Prelim meet will feature 48 competitors in each individual event, with each individual looking to finish in the top 12 for a national qualifying spot. The top-12 individuals in both the East and West regions will advance to the 2014 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships on June 11-14, in Eugene, Ore.
