234 Named to Spring Big 12 Honor Roll

The Big 12 Conference released its 2014 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 234 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
 
Of the 234 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 47 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the fall semester.
 
The 47 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Joby Lapkowicz (baseball); Kevin Noreen (men’s basketball); Averee Fields and Jess Harlee (women’s basketball); Ricky Rogers (football); Jaida Lawrence, Rachel Sine, Hope Sloanhoffer and Bethany Yurko (gymnastics); Elizabeth Duarte, Mallory Fisher, Madison Jones, Anna Kretzer, Erika Mall, Tamyra Roberts, Mollie Rosen, Courtney Schrand and Karen Verwey (rowing); Carly Black, Ali Connelly, Katie Osterman and Frances Silva (women’s soccer); Frank Csonka, Nathan Howells and David Palley (men’s swimming & diving); Meredith Rogers, Lindsay Schmidt, Haily VandePoel and Jenelle Zee (women’s swimming & diving); Jenna Barreto, Amy Cashin, Allie Diehl, Maggie Drazba, Jillian Forsey, Emily Gillespie, Brianna Kerekes, Allison Lasnicki, Renee Maisonneuve, Sarah Martinelli, Kimberly Mulvin, Allison Pettit, Sydney Scott and Kelly Williams (track and field); Liz Gulick, Elzbieta Klein and Hannah Shreve (volleyball); and Tim Wheeling (wrestling). In addition, Andy Bevin, Zach Claudio, Christian Diaz, Jack Elliott, Lee Johnston and Trevor Moon (men’s soccer), and Chance Cover, Thomas Kyanko and Maren Prediger (rifle) registered a 4.0 GPA in the fall.
 
The rowing and cross country/track teams led all Mountaineer athletic teams with 40 and 31 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include football (30), women’s soccer (22), men’s swimming & diving (18), women’s swimming & diving (18), baseball (17), gymnastics (13), wrestling (12), women’s basketball (9), tennis (9), volleyball (8) and men’s basketball (7). Men’s soccer had 19 student-athletes, while rifle had six student-athletes record a 3.0 GPA in the fall.
 
The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll is an inclusive honor for varsity sports sponsored by the membership of the league. The Commissioner’s Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those Big 12 student-athletes who recorded a 3.0 or better GPA the previous semester.
More than 2,500 student-athletes each semester have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Conference’s 17-year tenure.
