MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - On the second day at the 2014 Division I NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore, tonight, junior Allison Lasnicki
of the West Virginia University track and field team earned All-America honors.
Lasnicki concluded her season with the second-fastest time in school history in the 10,000 meters (33:46.22). She finished 17th overall in the event to earn Third Team All-America accolades.
"Allison ran a very good race last night," says coach Sean Cleary. "I am very both pleased and proud of her race. This has not been a smooth year for Lasnicki. After tearing her meniscus in the fall, she did not compete for six months."
The time for Lasnicki broke her previous season-best mark by 25 seconds and was just 10 seconds off her personal-best time of 33:36.11 set last season.
"In a very small time period, Allison had two big races at the Big 12 Championships and qualified for the NCAA finals. I saw a young lady that never quit trying last night," Cleary says. "She ran her fastest time of the season by 25 seconds and beat quite a few young ladies from the NCAA regional meet who beat her two weeks ago."
Former Mountaineer Clara Grandt holds the fastest time in school history in the event of 33:16.96 set in 2009.
"We are both very excited to see what a full year of training brings her as she'll now prepare for her senior year," Cleary says.
