MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two sophomores from the West Virginia University women’s soccer team were named to Canada’s 22-player Women’s National Team and will face Germany in a Women’s International Friendly on Wednesday, June 18, at 10 p.m. ET, at BC Place Stadium, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Defender Kadeisha Buchanan
and forward Ashley Lawrence
retained their roster spots following the team’s 1-1 draw against the United States Women’s National Team on May 8.
Buchanan, a Brampton, Ontario, native, scored her first career international goal against the USA and is expected to again earn the start at center back. She played the full 90 minutes in May.
Lawrence, a Toronto, Ontario, native, did not see playing time against the USA.
The duo, along with freshman forward Amandine Pierre-Louis
, recently camped with the Canadian Women’s U-20 Team in Burnaby, British Columbia, in preparation for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada, set for Aug. 5-24.
While in camp, the Canadians faced Korea Republic in two closed-door friendlies. Buchanan scored in the first match on June 7, and the teams played to a 2-2 draw. The Koreans earned a 2-1 win on June 10.
