MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two from the West Virginia University women’s soccer team logged a combined 109 minutes of action in the Canadian Women’s National Team’s 2-1 loss to Germany on June 18, at BC Place Stadium, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Sophomore defender Kadeisha Buchanan earned the start at center back, her 19th start for the national team, and played the full 90 minutes. Sophomore forward Ashley Lawrence entered the match in the 71st minute and played the final 19 minutes.
With Germany up 1-0 at the top of the second half, Canada’s Sophie Schmidt tallied the tying goal in the 54th minute, but Germany secured the lead for good 10 minutes later off a penalty kick.
The Canadian Women’s National Team will return to action in October, when the squad will play two matches against defending FIFA Women’s World Cup champions Japan.
