MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three from the West Virginia University women’s soccer team are in Burnaby, British Columbia, for a Women’s National EXCEL Program camp, in preparation for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada, set for Aug. 5-24.
Sophomores Kadeisha Buchanan
(defender) and Ashley Lawrence
(midfielder), along with freshman Amandine Pierre-Louis
(forward), traveled to the team’s base last week and will continue to train until July 9. This is the second time this month the trio has attended camp with their Canadian teammates.
No friendlies are scheduled for this camp. The team will continue to prepare for two friendlies against Mexico in Mexico City, scheduled for a camp that will run from July 16-21.
Buchanan and Lawrence have had a busy month, as the duo saw time in the Canadian Women’s National Team’s 2-1 loss to Germany on June 18.
The Canadian’s U-20 World Cup Group A slate will open on Aug. 5, against Ghana, at BMO Field, in Toronto. The team will then face Finland on Aug. 8, also in Toronto, before traveling to Montreal for a match against Korea DPR on Aug. 12.
