MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American teams for its work in the classroom last spring.
“It has been a staff and team focus over the years for the teams to have our academic performance a priority,” coach Vic Riggs says. “With this year’s teams we have reached and exceeded those goals, and now these are our expectations for future teams to maintain and improve upon.”
The women’s squad finished the spring semester with a 3.46 GPA, while the men posted a 3.11 GPA.
“The spring semester GPA for the women’s team is the highest in recent history and it’s the first time the men have had two consecutive semesters above a 3.0. I’m very proud of both teams.”
The award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall and spring semester.
