MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The International Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its 2014 All-Academic Teams, and West Virginia University is well represented.

The women’s tennis team was named a 2014 ITA All-Academic Team, with three Mountaineers earning Scholar-Athlete accolades.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.0 scale. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, or CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year.

Individual honors went to Ikettesh Chahal, Irina Toidze and Oana Manole who were tabbed as ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2014 season. In order to earn ITA All-Academic plaudits, individuals needed to earn a varsity letter, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and be enrolled at West Virginia University for at least two semesters.

“It is our mission to seek success in the classroom, as well as on the tennis courts,” says coach Miha Lisac. “I am happy for the players to be recognized as part of the ITA All-Academic Team, and rewarded for their work in the classroom. We will be looking to continue academic success as well as build the program on the tennis courts this coming season.”
