MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Oliver Luck and the Big 12 Conference have announced the 2014-15 women’s basketball schedule.
The Mountaineers will play at least 16 regular-season games at home, with every Big 12 team visiting Morgantown. In addition to conference play, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Fairfield, Coppin State, Duquesne, IPFW and Saint Francis (Pa.) will visit Morgantown in non-conference action. The Eastern Kentucky game is part of the Preseason WNIT. Depending on outcomes, the Mountaineers are guaranteed at least three games in the Preseason WNIT, which could add additional games in the Coliseum.
“After sharing the Big 12 Conference regular season title last year, I know coach Carey and his team are looking forward to getting back on the court,” said Luck. “We continue to set attendance records in the Coliseum, and I am pleased that our fans will be able to see our women’s basketball team at least 16 times at home this year. We are excited to begin the year in the Preseason WNIT, which is a great event to tip off our season.”
WVU will play non-conference road games at Ohio State and at Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mountaineers will return to Charleston to face Marshall in the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic.
“This will be our third season in the Big 12 Conference, and we know every game is a battle night in and night out,” said coach Mike Carey. “We are ecstatic about being invited to play in the Preseason WNIT and to play in such a prestigious event to tip off our season. This is a challenging schedule, but a schedule our fans will enjoy. We look forward to our great fan support at home in continuing to make the Coliseum one of the toughest places to play in the country.”
West Virginia will open the regular season Nov. 15 at home against Eastern Kentucky in the Preseason WNIT and will open Big 12 action at Oklahoma on Jan. 4. WVU will play its first Big 12 home game against Baylor on Jan. 10 and will conclude the Big 12 schedule at Kansas State on March 3.
The season will tip off with Haunted Hoops, presented by Coke Zero, a Halloween themed exhibition vs. Wheeling Jesuit with free admission on Oct. 31.
Game times and television schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates are subject to change for television.
