MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 12-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team concludes preseason with a scrimmage against Navy on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Admission is free and open to the public.
“We’re looking forward to competing at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in front of our home crowd,” said Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “I’m hoping to see this team execute many of the objectives we worked on throughout the week.”
The Mountaineers are coming off a 4-2 loss at Rutgers on Aug. 12. Junior forward Kailey Utley tallied three points in the match, as she scored WVU’s first goal and assisted on freshman midfielder Carla Portillo’s score.
Two Mountaineer goalies saw time in the net, with redshirt-freshman Michelle Newhouse allowing four goals in the first half, and junior Hannah Steadman posting a shutout in the second half.
Saturday’s scrimmage is the first of the year for Navy. Senior defender Jade Seabrook has garnered much attention this preseason, as the two-time NSCAA All-American was named to the 2014 Missouri Athletics Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List and’s Preseason Best XI Second Team.
