Men’s Soccer Picked Second in MAC

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll, conference officials announced today.

“Our goal is obviously to be picked to win the MAC every season, so it looks like we have some work to do,” coach Marlon LeBlanc says. “This year’s team is very talented and I’m looking forward to competing with the other schools for our first MAC Championship.”

Akron was chosen to win the league according to the MAC head coaches with four first-place votes, while WVU was second with one first-place vote. Western Michigan came in at No. 3, followed by Northern Illinois (No. 4), Bowling Green (No. 5) and Buffalo (No. 6).

Akron also was chosen to win the tournament championship with three votes, while the Mountaineers received two votes and Western Michigan had one.

West Virginia begins the 2014 season with two games as part of the WVU/Penn State Classic at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. St. John’s will travel to Morgantown for the season opener on Friday, Aug. 29, at 5:30 p.m., while WVU will host Oakland on Monday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m.
