Maloney Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a five-point weekend at the Penn State Invitational, junior forward Kelsie Maloney of the No. 11-ranked women’s soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.
A Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, native, Maloney had a hand in all three of the Mountaineers’ goals in their comeback win over Missouri on Aug. 24, at PSU’s Jeffrey Field. Maloney set-up both of senior forward Kate Schwindel’s goals, the team’s first and final scores of the match. She also tallied her own goal, evening the score in the 62nd minute.
Maloney’s four points on Sunday were a career high, trumping the three she tallied at Penn State last August. Additionally, her assist output doubled her previous single-game high.
Maloney also assisted on the team’s lone goal against then-No. 11 PSU on Aug. 22, sending a pass to sophomore defender Kadeisha Buchanan, who got a soft touch off her right foot from eight-yards out in the 72nd minute.
After two matches, Maloney owns a team-best five points.
