Volleyball’s Konstantinidou Earns Big 12 Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball’s Lamprini Konstatninidou made her career debut an impressive one, garnering Big 12 Rookie of the Week accolades for the week of September 1. The league announced the honor on Monday.
The Greek setter led both the squad and the Big 12 last weekend with 12.22 assists per set for a total of 110. In her first career game, Konstantinidou recorded four service aces against the No. 9-ranked BYU Cougars. She also had 37 assists, six digs and a block assist. The following day, she helped the Mountaineers to a 3-0 sweep of Toledo with 37 assists and a team-best 14 digs for a double-double. Konstantinidou capped things off with a career-high 39 assists in a 3-0 victory over IUPUI, just missing a double-double with nine digs. Her efforts earned her a spot on the Gold & Blue Player’s Challenge All-Tournament team.
“It was nice to Lamprini step in to our experienced line up and excel,” said coach Jill Kramer. “Her calm demeanor and composure was one par with our veterans and set the tone for our team’s consistency. We look forward to what she can do the rest of the season.”
Lauren Douglass of Texas Tech earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Iowa State’s Caitlin Nolan was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
The Mountaineers will take on Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, in a 6 p.m. match on Monday. Later in the week, the will head to Niagara, Univ., New York, to compete in the Niagara Invitational that will take place Friday and Saturday.
