MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team held the 2015 WVU Alumni Open Tuesday evening at the Mon River Rail Trail.
The Mountaineers had a total of 22 runners on the 4k trail, seven of which were alumni.
A unique aspect of the WVU Alumni Open is that runners compete in teams of two. The race included a total of 11 teams, with one teammate running the first leg of the race and the second runner making the return trip. Runners recorded both a team time and an individual time.
Junior Brianna Kerekes and sophomore Millie Paladino each finished in 11:10 to tie for the top individual time.
Five teams tied for first with a combined time of 22:54. The winning teams were Megan Yuan and Millie Paladino, Allie Diehl and Brynn Harshbarger, Corinne Kule and Brianna Kerekes, alumnae Kaylyn Christopher and Clara Santucci and alumnae Kaitlyn Gillespie and Heather Cleary.
Former Mountaineers also included Heather Parks, Aubrey Moskul and Lydia Martinelli.
Four freshman ran unattached: Anna French, Candace Jones, Peyton Panger and Olivia Hill.
WVU will head to University Park, Pennsylvania, to compete at the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11.
