MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 2017 NCAA National Champion West Virginia University rifle team will host an open house at the WVU Rifle Range on Tuesday, March 21, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers and coach Jon Hammond will be available to greet fans and take pictures. Fans also will have the opportunity to take pictures with the team’s nation-best 19th NCAA Championship trophy. Additionally, the range will be open for fans to take a practice shot at the line.
“We want our Mountaineer fans to be able to celebrate this team’s great accomplishments with the student-athletes in their home environment,” Hammond said. “We’ve wanted to hold an open house for some time, and there’s no better moment than after winning an NCAA title. We’re also excited to provide our fans with an opportunity to step on the range and have a go at what the student-athletes experience.”
WVU shot a championship-record 4723 score and won its fifth straight NCAA title on March 11 at The Ohio State University’s French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. The win was the team’s sixth in 11 years under coach Hammond. Freshman Morgan Phillips
won the individual smallbore title on March 10, and classmate Milica Babic
won the air rifle title the following day.
