Madina Ali enters her first season as the graduate assistant on the Mountaineer women's basketball staff.
No stranger to the program, the Williamsport, Pa., native was a two-year letterwinner for West Virginia after joining the team in 2008 from Daytona Beach Community College. Given the Leland Byrd Award for her display of excellent leadership abilities on and off the court, Ali served as co-captain in her junior and senior seasons, closing out her two-year Mountaineer career with all-conference second team honors.
A part of Carey’s largest graduating class, Ali earned a degree from West Virginia in criminology and investigations in May 2011. The 6-foot forward went on to play one season internationally with Aanekosken Huima in Finland. Following her season abroad, Ali returned to Morgantown to work with the WVU women’s basketball program as she pursues a master’s degree in social work.
