Shannon McNamara is in her second year as the assistant sports information director in the West Virginia University Sports Communications Office.

McNamara is the primary media contact for the nationally ranked gymnastics squad and the 14-time NCAA Champion WVU rifle team, and also works with the men's soccer team. Additionally, she also supports the communication efforts for the nationally ranked football team and assists with the publicity efforts of WVU’s Olympic sports.

McNamara most recently held the position of graduate assistant within the WVU sports communications office from 2008-10, and worked with the rifle, gymnastics and football teams, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball squads.

The Venetia, Pa., native held the position of communications assistant at the BIG EAST Conference from 2007-08, where she served as the primary media contact for nine conference sports and represented the league at regular-season and postseason events, such as the 2007 BIG EAST men’s and women’s media days in New York City.

She previously worked in the WVU Sports Communications Office as a student assistant (2006-07) and served as the primary media contact for cross country, track and field, swimming and diving and tennis.

McNamara owns two degrees from West Virginia University. She earned her bachelor’s of science degree in journalism, with a specialization in public relations, from the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism in 2007, and her master’s degree in sport management in 2010.
