Associate Sports Information Director
Katie Kane was appointed as the associate sports information director in the West Virginia University Sports Communications Office in September 2010.
Kane is the primary media contact for the Mountaineer women’s basketball program and assists with the publicity efforts of WVU’s Olympic sports. She previously served as the communications contact for the Western Illinois men’s basketball team for two seasons.
In her four years at Western Illinois, Kane worked with all 20 NCAA Division I sport programs in some capacity. She was hired as the assistant director for athletics media services in July 2008, after having served in the media services office as a graduate assistant for two years.
Kane served as the director of media services on an interim basis for the fall 2009 season, where she oversaw the media relations efforts of all 20 WIU sports and served as the primary contact for the Fighting Leatherneck football and men's basketball programs.
Prior to her time with the Leathernecks, Kane was a part of the media relations staff at Illinois State. Serving as a student intern for the 2001-02 season, Kane was the primary media contact for the Redbird women’s golf program, promoting back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Championship titles. In addition to women’s golf, Kane assisted department colleagues in all aspects of football, volleyball and basketball.
The Bartlett, Ill., native completed her master’s degree in sport management from Western Illinois after earning a bachelor of science degree in communication studies at Illinois State.
